  • M.A. Studies at the University of Cologne: Computer science for the humanities (HKI), Sociology, Philosophy
  • Earned a master degree in 2004 (german 'Magister Artium') with a master thesis on crossmapping of library metadata formats (Title: Zur automatischen Übersetzbarkeit von Metadatenformaten: MAB2 - PICA)
  • Since 2006 PhD studies on the fitness of data formats for long-term survival


    • Work experience

  • Since August 2004 research associate at HKI, additionally teaching there
  • 2004 - 2005 EU Project Delos Network of Excellence. Tasks: Design of digital libraries for long-term preservation, metadata extraction for genre classification in pdf documents, programming a software tool (C/C++) to support this task.
  • 2005 - 2006 Project at the University of Cologne for improvement of the IT infrastructure of the philosophical faculty.
  • 2006 - 2010 EU Project PLANETS. Design and implementation of XML-based formal languages for describing file format content, implementation of software tools to support preservation planning processes and evaluation of file format conversions
